From suite 1236 at THE LANGHAM CHICAGO, above, you have the best of all worlds. Look down at the Chicago River and south along State Street. Around are many of Chicago’s iconic buildings, a testimony to America’s best architects of the last century. The hotel is actually in the sculpture that Mies van der Rohe designed for IBM – now it’s the headquarters of The American Medical Association.
Oh how memorable river views are. In Bangkok, Girlahead loves looking out at the Chao Phraya from MANDARIN ORIENTAL BANGKOK, CAPELLA BANGKOK and FOUR SEASONS BANGKOK and, from the other bank, THE PENINSULA BANGKOK. In Paris, best views along the Seine are from LE CHEVA BLANCE
In London, ideal Thames are from THE SAVOY or, looking down from on high, SHANGRI-LA AT THE SHARD. As an alternative, think parks, particularly Hyde Park (best, from north-facing rooms at MANDARIN ORIENTAL LONDON HYDE PARK). Girlahead also loves skyline views, as from THE HARI, looking over Belgravia. It will be fascinating, also, see views of Queensway – a notably rising district – from the forthcoming SIX SENSES LONDON, opening Q2 of 2024 – expect all concerned to give this a big push, especially since those who know say IHG loves the brand and it’s a big part of its Luxury and Lifestyle division.
What about memorable views elsewhere? For canals, Amsterdam’s HOTEL DE L’EUROPE or WALDORF ASTORIA. For mountains, Switzerland’s CHEDI ANDERMATT or, for overall nature, THE DOLDER GRAND. Whatever, wherever, look out.
