Beverly Hills CA – Sylt – Bodø

Joyce Louie is chief concierge at Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills – she is right in the image above, with her boss, hotel GM Vanessa Williams. Joyce Louie has been deemed best in town by the Los Angeles Concierge Association and, as we all know, to be applauded by your friends and peers is particularly special.  Girlahead believes that generally an intense local knowledge is one of the main essentials of conciergerie, but interestingly Joyce Louie relocated from New York’s Lotte Palace in 2009, since when she has honed her experience at Four Seasons Los Angeles Beverly Hills and Montage Beverly Hills before moving to Alagem Capital’s gorgeous Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills in time for its opening June 2017.  The hotel has 170 beautiful art- and sculpture-filled champagne-coloured rooms designed, in his typical thoughtful style by Pierre-Yves Rochon: Girlahead last stayed February 2020 in #902 and she just wished she had been there for longer than her usual one-night-stand.

Beverly Hills is year-round supremacy. The German island of Sylt, in the Baltic, is, by contrast, considered Summer-only.  A one-time complex of military officers’ homes there is currently being turned into a Lanserhof medical spa, with 67 bedrooms. Lanserhof is such a key component of German, indeed central-Europe, wellness at this time, and it also has a stunning London facility, directly across Mayfair’s Dover Street from its partner-in-wellness, The Arts Club.

Think globally, and two major wellness names spring to mind, says Girlahead. One is Bangkok-based GOCO, run by Ingo Schweder, whose latest announcement is a 65-room GOCO Retreat Moonstone at Bodø, in the north of Norway.  The other is Six Senses, run by Singapore-based Neil Jacobs.  Hear him here, once again:
