Three years ago today, on 18th June 2018, 12 teenage boys, amateur footballers all, and their 25-year old coach were miraculously rescued from Tham Luang Nang Non cave in Northern Thailand. The whole world was on tenderhooks, and cheered when they were were released, thanks to such rescuers as pothole specialist Rick Stanton: there will be a Netflix mini-series, Thirteen Lives, with Viggo Mortensen playing Stanton. Girlahead is particularly interested in the aftermath of this amazing story as the first boy to emerge, Adul Sam-on, is now, at just 17, in 12th grade at The Masters School, Dobbs Ferry-on-Hudson, NY – where she too studied, in 12th grade.
Once again Barry Sternlicht – he who thought up W Hotels and the subsequent entire lifestyle sector – shows his brilliance. He is turning the Brutalist St George’s Hotel, just north of London’s Oxford Circus, into his first fun-concept Treehouse Hotel. And, what is more, US celebrity-chefs Joe Bastianich and Nancy Silverton will next month be opening a Pizzeria Mozza there next month. Designers Ward & Gray, look a Mediterranean garden with planting and trees and trailing vines, terracotta tiled floors, lighting by Venetian glass blower Sogni di Cristallo. With a street entrance, well-publicised to-go facility, Girlahead sees this as great competition to existing Upper Regent Street and Portland Place dining places. The Bastianich-Silverton duo also run Michelin-starred Osteria Mozza, Chi Spacca and La Brea Bakery, all in Los Angeles, and Silverton, winner of the James Beard Foundation’s Outstanding Chef Award in 2014, is star of Netflix’s Chef’s Table, plus she somehow has had time to write nine cookbooks.
In Madrid, the long-established Villa Magna hotel becomes Rosewood later this year, with interiors re-done by Melbourne-based BAR Studio and food by Michelin’s three-star recipient Jesús Sánchez. The 154-key hotel is owned by RLH Properties, whose massive portfolio also includes Andaz, Banyan Tree, Fairmont, Four Seasons and Rosewood properties in Latin America.
Girlahead was delighted to have online praise, today, for the current Mary Gostelow Girlahead podcast. Hilton’s Dino Michael is such a nice guy came up again and again. Here below is delightful-Dino. Hear him here:
