Girlahead salutes James McBride – again. As CEO of the NIHI brand, a partnership with entrepreneur Chris Burch, this South African-born entrepreneur is not only full of ideas but he is a marketing force. He has teamed NIHI Sumba with Aqua Expeditions for exploring remote and breathtaking islands and seas of East Indonesia. Leave Bali aboard on super-yacht Aqua Blu (above) for a four-night cruise round Komodo National Park. This is followed by three nights at NIHI Sumba, and, on the way there, visit Moyo Island’s secret waterfall, dive among Gili Lawah’s manta rays, hike Padar Island’s rugged landscape – and, natch, take lots of selfies with Komodo dragons, or outsize lizards, at Horseshoe Bay.
There can be yet more activity once you reach Sumba. Perrsonally, Girlahead favours mountain biking but you also have paddling down the Wanukaka river, joining a tour of The Sumba Foundation projects, swimming with the resort’s horses and sunset rides on the shores of Nihiwatu beach. Have a yoga session with stunning views of the Indian Ocean and indulge in NIHI’s signature Spa Safari.
Another of Girlahead’s creative heroes is Francesco Galli Zugaro, founding CEO of Aqua Expeditions. As he says, this partnership enables a holistic guest experience that combines adventures on land and sea with the highest levels of luxury, service and customization.
Yes, remember that it is not only hotels and resorts but luxury cruise vessels that can get nearest to today’s pinnacle service levels. Girlahead is longing, once again, to get back on board a Pinault-owned Ponant ship, or a slightly-larger Regent Seven Seasons. About ten years ago Four Seasons thought of entering cruising… think what that product would be!
