Luxury travel tip of the week, gal. Watch what you eat at all times, and make the most of airlines’ airport lounges.
I know that when I am about to get a nasty-little-concoction on a small plastic tray on the flight I am about to board, it is best to forget the time and have a very early lunch, or very early dinner, in the lounge, before flying. One of the best I have found are the SLOW lounges in both terminals of Johannesburg International Airport. In both the domestic and the international terminals, the SLOW lounges have an open kitchen, with chefs working there, in front of you. The photo shows helpers, from the Open Table catering company, laying out lunch at 11 am. Even by US standards, this is early for lunch (and for our Middle Eastern friends it may be too early for breakfast, but who cares?). I was able to make a delicious salad, with added smoked salmon from the bagel sandwiches, and headed off to my ongoing plane, feeling well, and I mean WELL, fed.
