Simply Sunday: consistency needs the occasional wow

Manolo slippers

The gal needs to return to Milan and its luxury hotels – she has so many happy memories of Armani Milan, Bulgari, Park Hyatt Milan and Principe di Savoia, and, of course, of Four Seasons Milan.  At the last hotel, the combination of a calm oasis destination right on via Gesu, in the heart of the Triangolo d’Oro, Golden Triangle, area, and history dating back to the 15th century, and the charm of Italian service all blend together to give such happy memories.

Every time I have been there I have marvelled at flower displays in public areas, by celebrity flower artist Vincenzo Dascanio.  His inspiration has rubbed off on the hotel’s talented staff who do lovely flowers, too,  in both bedrooms and bathrooms.  But, to be honest, my bathroom in suite 118/9, where I have stayed several times, always had everything I wanted, from an electric hot rail and Pedersoli towels to generous (75ml) sizes of toiletries, Genius Loci Milano for the hotel by the Florentine alchemist, Lorenzo Villoresi.  And now add surprise. Brilliant hotel GM Mauro Governato is partnering with Manolo Blahnik, and those staying on a Blahnik deal get a pair of velvet, satin and gold-thread slippers, to wear in the luxury hotel bathroom and, back home, perhaps to show off: this is to promote a retrospective of Manolo shoes at Palazzo Moranda, four minutes walk away – the show runs through April 7th, 2017.  Confirmation: consistency + surprise = memories.
