Luxury and secrets, Paris style

Luxury hotels in Paris were conveniently built around central courtyards. Le Bristol, part of Oetker Collection, uses its central space, which is actually a gorgeous garden, as the Summer venue for its three-star Michelin Epicure, named for Epicurea, a private theatre which the Count of Castellane had built here in 1829. Park Hyatt Paris Vendôme, on the site of the former atelier of couturier Jeanne Paquin, is, as thespian lexographers would say, ‘dark’ this Summer, but usually GM Claudio Ceccherelli transforms the inner courtyard as a theatrical performance, say a yachting marina in Summer, and, in Winter, an authentic wood Alpine chalet serving gluwein and raclette.

On 10th June 2020 Le Royal Monceau – Raffles Paris opened what it calls ‘Secret Garden’. Open daily 11 a.m. through to 10 p.m., the venue – see above – serves dishes from its regular restaurants, ideally with Billecart-Salmon Champagne. Choose South American-Japanese from Matsuhisa, a partnership with Nobu Matsuhisa, or French from La Cuisine, or Italian from Carpaccio. More secrets, with new GM Christophe Thomas in place, watch this 149-room Palais stress even more association with the art world: Girlahead is already drawn to Nikolay Polissky’s lifesize animals, formed of unpainted recycled wood, and, an all time favourite, Robert Indiana’s LOVE sculptures. And it is no secret that the hotel’s lowest-level all-white MyBlend by Clarins wellness has an indoor pool and two adjacent Technogym rooms really used by local members who include globally-recognized Big Names.

Technogym also features at J.K. Place Paris, the City of Light’s newest luxury hotel. A conversion of the former Norwegian Embassy on Rive Gauche, near Musée d’Orsay, this 30-room beauty (a member of Leading) has been designed by Michele Bönan.  ‘J.K.’ stand for the father of the J.K. Place CEO Ohri Kafri, fast being recognized as one of the top luxury-lovers in the global hotel world – he is speaking at www.thenewtravelconference.com this Wednesday, 24 June 2020, at 6.30 p.m. Paris time (he is in discussion with Farhad Heydari, House of Heydari). Hotel GM is Riccardo Ortogni. Arrange to fly there, flights and hotel suite arranged by www.jetex.com
