Red Bull – Tuscany – London – Leading

The Red Bull team, like all those competing in Formula One races, suffers from aches and pains after going round and round a track – extended periods of time in the driver’s seat can take a hefty toll on glutes and shoulders. But it is not only drivers who suffer wear and tear. For the pit crew, bending over and lightning-fast fixes to vehicles mean the low back, hands, and arms potentially suffer. Red Bull guys, see above, apparently ‘fire’ Theraguns at sore areas. Theraguns, distributed in Europe from Ireland, are owned by Therabody, whose proactive and holistic wellness business was started in 2008 by a chiropractic, Dr Jason Wersland, as a result of his own motorbike accident the previous year. Girlahead salutes this versatile use of technology wellness support (is it true The Peak, the long-established sky-high members’ club at Carlton Tower Jumeirah, London, also uses Theraguns in some treatments?).

Girlahead has always admired an Italian touring company that invites clients to drive red sports cars (NOT Red Bull-branded) around Italy.  Turin-based Red Travel, led by President-CEO Andrea Levy, offers drive-yourself Ferrari tours. It also suggests tailor-made packages, with full VIP service, in such cars as Ferrari, Aston Martin, Dallara, Tesla, Lamborghini, Maserati, Porsche – and drive yourself, for style, to the Mille Miglia, the F1 Monaco and Monza Grand Prix, or Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, Milan’s Monza open-air motor show, and the spectacular Mugello and Misano MotoGP.

As you drive yourself around the scenic and hilly roads of Tuscany, you may want to stop at Borgo Pignano, and hour from both Florence and Pisa and close to the mediaeval hill towns of Volterra and San Gimignano. The Borgo is village-luxury. Stay in an 18th century noble house or beautifully-restored rustic apartments, cottages and luxury villas on the estate (think about the five-bedroom Farmhouse, with its own pool). There is a strong focus on sustainability – breads, pastry and fresh pasta are made of ancient wheat flours produced in the on-site Flour Lab from home-grown grain. Another differentiation here is art. There is always someone from London’s Royal Drawing School to lead painting lessons, complemented by contemporary exhibitions that change every six months.

From sport and art to entertainment, and food. The Milestone Hotel, London, a Red Carnation hotel on the south periphery of London’s Kensington Gardens, hosts a James Bond dinner on Saturday 29th May. The evening is hosted by Linda Hugo, Beyond Curated, and food critic Richard Bagnold, with the help of Sotheby’s Alessandro Borruso, and Sophie Harley, who worked with Casino Royale. The evening starts with 2005 Taittinger Blanc de Blancs over a discussion of rare gems and diamonds, and continues with a succession of dishes, interpreted from 007 tales by Richard Bagnold and prepared by the hotel’s own Daniel Putz.
