The Connaught has teamed up with Green & Stone, and Alex Fowler, to offer half-day curated art classes, Plein Air in Mayfair. After one of London’s finest luxury hotel breakfasts, you are given all necessary supplies, including an art apron, and the class begins – you share the experience with a maximum of five others. The Connaught was home to artist Graham Sutherland in the past, and today it is associated with Tadao Ando, creator of the brilliant sculpture pool in front of the hotel; Sir Antony Gormley, who designed the hotel’s 2016 Christmas tree, and with Damien Hirst, whose work hangs in Restaurant Hélene Darroze. Green & Stone, on King’s Road, was started 1927 and is now one of the most important art suppliers in Europe. Alex Fowler specialises in figurative, landscape and still life art, mainly in oils. He is a member of the New English Art Club.
GirlAhead’s recommendation, by the way, is to stay at this gorgeous luxury hotel, ideally two nights, one before the nine a.m. start of the class, and one afterwards, to give you time to finish the masterpiece that you will forever be showing off to your friends.
