Oman has so much to offer – see Coral Ocean Tours’ image of spinning and other dolphin, above. Stay at the fabulous Chedi Muscat and spend days dolphin following, or perhaps exploring nearby khors (fjords) and bandars (natural harbours). Bandar Khayran, for instance, is a mangrove-fringed lagoon that is home to fish, morays, turtles, stingrays, lionfish triggerfish, parrotfish, and more. With mask and snorkel to hand, I set out to commune with this marine bounty. At the 158-room Chedi – GM Thomas Guss – Girlahead recommends one of the 39 Chedi Club Suites, closest to the beach and you get, included, airport transport, breakfast, cocktails and ample free laundry. #1103, for instance, is up 22 steps, so it has great views. The Chedi is part of Leading Hotels of the World.
Less that half an hour from Dublin, in Carton village, Carton House, which dates back to 1739, is now Fairmont managed. Owned by Apple Leisure Chairman John Mullen, Carton House’s GM is another very-Irish luxury lover, Martin Mangan, who tells Girlahead that of the 169 total keys, the hotel signature is the 180 sq m Lord Edward Suite, with double-height ceilings. You have for-ever grounds and a golf course, and do not miss the man-made lake. Apparently it was dug by the then-owner, the Duke of Leinster, in honour of a forthcoming visit by Queen Victoria. The construction bankrupted him and when the appointed time came it poured so much Her Majesty never even went outside. Girlahead loves personal stories like this. Another commendable point is that instead of calling a restaurant something fancy, here the one-time servants’ eating quarters have been converted to Kathleen’s kitchen, to produce a contemporary take on Irish favourites.
Finally, once again, Girlahead says watch China’s millennials. April-June 2021 Burberry sales rose 55% during that time, says Burberry CFO Julie Brown. If you want to know more about what is happening in China, listen again to Kempinski’s Man In Beijing, Michael Henssler:
