ART SCENE

There are four more days to bid for the chairs above, Lot 1005 in the online auction of some of the trappings owned by the late, and forever missed, KARL LAGERFELD. This is a case of ARTWITH HEART.  Karl Lagerfeld’s effects are being auctioned online by Sotheby’s. At latest  glance, the metal and leather Cassina Auckland chairs, circa 1966, by Jean-Marie Massaud (shown above) are about to be knocked down to a lucky Mr Karl-ite for €2,000: estimate €400-€600, Lot 1005.

ART BASEL MIAMI BEACH is getting into full swing.  Tonight, at THE BETSY, its owners Lesley Goldwasser and Jonathan Plutzik, formally launch their latest exhibits, showcasing such artists as Colombia’s Monika Bravo, sponsored by the City of Miami Beach; an NFT intallation by Spain’s Ricardo Cavolo and other works from Cuba Italy, Mali, USA and Zimbabwe. All hotels are hoping to make a financial killing. There are two official partner hotels: W SOUTH BEACH, 11 minutes’ walk away, starts at $1,199 a night, while, 8 minutes by car, Grand Beach Hotel is $399 up. (Actually ‘lesser partners’ are not enticing: Lennox, 5 minutes’ walk, is $613 up; Marseilles, 6 minutes’ walk, is $409 up, and Pestana, the closest at 3 minutes’ walk, is $349.)  GIRLAHEAD WOULD OPT FOR W SOUTH BEACH FOR THE NETWORKING.

In The Caribbean, Belmond’s LA SAMANNA, ST MARTIN, introduces its next artist-in-residence. From 15th December 15, 2021, French photographer François Castelain, who splits his time between Paris and St Martin, will show portraits of island residents and offer hotel guests complimentary portraiture photography classes.

And from one island, San Maarten-St Martin, in the Caribbean, to another, Malta, in The Mediterranean. Listen to Malta’s top hotelier, CORINTHIA CEO SIMON NAUDI, here:
