Amsterdam – New York – Prague

Ronald van der Kemp will showcase designs like the above, photograph by Marijke Aerden,  at a ‘live installation’ at Amsterdam’s always-happening De L’Europe hotel this Friday, 18th September 2020, as part of the city’s Fashion Week. This April, De L’Europe and van der Kemp worked closely together on a presentation called ‘Army of Love’, and its couture masks  will now be auctioned by Christie’s to benefit The Refugee Company. The hotel is, helped by conceptual design agency D/DOCK, continuing to strengthen its role as a creative hub for the city. (It is worth noting that Eurostar has confirmed that its return service Amsterdam to London starts on 26th October.)

24th September sees the start of a Sotheby’s New York sale of some of the nearly 140 artworks belonging to the Keith Haring Foundation.  Expected to realise a million dollars for the Foundation’s LGBTQ Center, the Dear Keith auction will include pieces by such luminaries as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol. One highlight is a Warhol print of Haring and his lover Juan Dubose. For Americans thinking of travelling to New York – check first. The city’s Mayor decrees that anyone coming from 35 ‘red-alert States’ has to isolate for two weeks BEFORE checking into a Big Apple hotel (what to do?  Camp out in Central Park?).
