Luxury travel tip: splurge (like royalty) from time to time

Royal Suite

Royal Suite at London InterContinental Park Lane

Simply Sunday.  Every now and again everyone needs to spoil themselves.  It might be having a pedicure when you do not really need one, or coming off the dryathon (no alcohol, sponsored for charity), or treating yourself to an amazing overnight stay when you could be doing Formula One, the hotel rather than a car race in this particular instance.

In London, for example, splurge on the newly redone Royal Suite at InterContinental London Park Lane (photo). You have views along Constitution Hill to Buckingham Palace, across Park Lane to Hyde Park, and, directly beneath you, the Quadriga of Hyde Park Corner.

Inside your suite, which is mainly champagne and taupe, you have Pearly Queen pillows, a royal-look cascading fabric bedhead and outline drawings of The Queen’s hats.

You also get, with a special package, a Thames trip on a Sunseeker boat that not only appeared in a Bond movie but took part in the 2012 Diamond Jubilee flotilla.

One more thing – if you want to share with friends, the Royal Suite can be extended to up to eight bedrooms!
