Simply Sunday, what with life on the road being almost nonstop for this perennial traveller, nothing beats a working fire. I remember the fireplaces in rooftop rooms at Mandarin Oriental Geneva, at Four Seasons in Scottsdale, and at Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn in Boyes CA. After my six-hour drive to Vivanta by Taj, Madikeri Coorg, having a real log fireplace was – coupled with the view, and the welcome – one of the factors determining this to be one of the world’s ten best resorts. Similarly, after a 90 minutes’ drive north of Montreal, I arrived at the snowbound Hotel Quintessence in Mont-Tremblant. Room 303, bliss oh bliss, also has a real-log fireplace. Would I like it lit? Yes please. A man arrived, lit it for me and stayed until he knew it had taken.
After that, I headed to the gym and spa, and felt even better about life. Go for it, gal.
