Siem Reap – IHG – Beijing

Enthusiasts for Bensley Collection’s Shinta Mani tented camp in Cambodia can read such staggering statistics on the tented conservation resort’s website as 3 (number of bulldozers confiscated), one (machete), 7 (poachers arrested) and 208 (chainsaws discovered) and so on. At the same time, read about animals saved, including one (porcupine), 3 (python) and 81 (turtles).  Shinta Mani has just launched of a $10,000 Grand Prize in a raffle to raise money for wildlife protection to honour three important dates on the conservation calendar.  Bill Bensley, above, will draw the prizes live on Instagram on 22nd April 2021, Earth Day, at 8p.m. Thailand time, which is 1p.m. GMT.

IHG has, oh so commendably, launched a 10-year commitment to sustainability. Journey to Tomorrow was stimulated by a 9,000 global survey that found 82% wanting a responsible hotel brand and prepared to spend an extra 31% on rate to achieve this – 58% of under-25s versus 36% of over-55s say the pandemic has made them more aware of their impact on the world, and, also, 86% of total want to contribute more to both communities and planet. IHG has brought in as supporters not only the World Travel & Tourism Council WTTC, led by President and CEO Gloria Guevara, but also the Sustainable Hospitality Alliance, which is chaired by highly-respected long-time hotelier (Hilton followed by Rezidor) Wolfgang Neumann. Legs of IHG’s Journey to Tomorrow are founded on care for employees, care for communities, and conserving energy, waste and water. How will consumers be affected? The answer is not in the immediate future as IHG is currently focussed on social impact and sustainability initiatives already under way.

And now, let us finish, for today, by heading to Beijing, to listen to Kempinski’s Man For Asia, Michael Henssler:
