Of course it depends on the quality of the tomatoes. In UK the most prized are from the Isle of Wight but they are only available March to November. Year-round, staple supplies come from The Netherlands. Sorry all you Dutch foodies, you produce so much that is admirable but your tomatoes are tasteless.

In Ohio, the first Reynoldsburg Tomato Festival was held in 1966. This year, as well as serious judging and exhibitions and such side activities as pickleball, there’s the must-watch tomato wars, Friday 11th August at 6pm. Teams of fivego head-to-head in a dodgeball style tournament to be this year’s champs. However, instead of rubber balls, they’ll be throwing tomatoes.
