Luxury Hotels

Pre-empting the justifiable comment ‘what’s this ‘ere pic got to do with food, guv?’, let us explain. Harrods has the best food hall in the whole of UK – or perhaps, with the bankruptcy of KaDeWe owner, in the whole of Europe. The above image is on the wall of Sofitel London Heathrow T5, a functional terminal-attached hotel that does an absolutely first-class job in bedding and feeding pre-flighters and events delegates. And sometimes – like last night, when United cancelled – there’s an influx of an entire planeload.

It’s franchised, owned and run by the fabulous Surinder Arora (hear him on a past episode of MARY GOSTELOW’S GIRLAHEAD PODCAST, which, by the way, this week reached an incredible 80,000 followers). Do not expect sexy-plush rooms. What you get are rooms that work, adjustable desk chairs, ample flat tops for unpacking and work space, well-lit bathrooms and good, speedy roomservice.

You also get really passionate and well-trained staff (can’t remember your pin number? We’ll find a way around that). It’s actually an ideal pre-flight hotel. Walk through to the terminal tomorrow but meanwhile enjoy a tasty plate of fish and chips with mushy peas. Harrods could not have done betteer.
