WHAT’S ON

DUBAI’S MILKING ITS SHOW-TIME FOR ALL ITS WORTH and who can blame it?  Latest highlight is the 50th birthday of the founding of the UAE. The four-day celebration revolves around a journey of authentic Emirati experiences and stories. UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed of Abu Dhabi is leading the events. The main Expo’s UAE national day ceremony is at Al Wasl Plaza. It includes the raising of the flag, high-level speeches and anthem performances by a children’s choir, and concludes with an Al Azi Performance by Al Wasmi.

In London, Girlahead called by THE SAVOY. She was greeted – above – by MD Franck Arnold and doorman Tony  Cortegaça. It was snowing, the very day THE SAVOY STARTED CHRISTMAS WITH TEAM MEMBERS singing carols in the front courtyard – the courtyard that creative boss, Franck Arnold, an Alsatian with endless ideas, turned into a must-visit outdoor restaurant this last summer.  SEE THE VIDEO BELOW. The festive season decorations inside the hotel, too, are whimsical, sheer magic. If it’s free, says Girlahead, book the hotel’s GUCCI SUITE. The butterflies seemingly flying across a table top will blow you away.

Looking forward to the end of the month, think about CELEBRATIONS FOR NEW YEAR IN WASHINGTON D.C. Mandarin Oriental Washington D.C. – GM Nicolas Dubort – suggests the hotel’s New Year’s Eve dinner. He says it’s a five-course dinner with endless Rose champagne by Laurent-Perrier, live music, and scenic water views.
