A NOSE FOR NATURE

Lavender. A girl’s name.

Flowers that represent purity, silence, devotion, serenity, grace, and calmness. The colour of royalty. Overall, elegance, refinement, and luxury.

It’s been used for perfumes – apparently Leonardo da Vinci said rub your hands in their flowers and that’s enough!  It’s used today extensively in the Grasse area in southern France, for soaps and toiletries. Good English ladies sew lavender bags to keep drawers holding their clean underwear sweet smelling.

GRAVETYE MANOR, south-east of London, is a memory of lavender in the front drive. The image above is taken on Girlahead’s rear terrace. Memories and luxury.
