Belmond – China – Tiktok – Six Senses

Belmond’s legendary Venice Simplon-Orient-Express now has five new boarding points – Amsterdam, Brussels, Geneva, Florence and Rome. You spend one night aboard. The train’s 17 restored Art Deco carriages include six Grand Suites, including one 1926 carriage holding the Vienna, Prague and Budapest suites, ensuite (including showers), double beds and a living area with underfloor heating – Grand Suite guests get a personal 24-hour cabin steward, free-flowing champagne, in-suite dining and private transfers to and from the train. At the Italian end of the journey, any guest can opt to stay, say, in Fiesole, just outside Florence, at stunning Belmond Villa San Michele, with its signature façade designed by Michelangelo.

The idea, perhaps not surprisingly, started in California, and went on to Malta (well, that Mediterranean island was already welcoming investors prepared to buy residency there, to achieve an EU passport, and, separately, e-gaming executives, especially from Scandinavia, love working there).  Clubhouses appear, according to The New York Times, to be masterminded by a certain Amir Ben-Yohanan, 48, supposedly a real estate tycoon who owns West of Hudson Group and something called Tongi Healthcare. Anyway, hosting Millennial or Gen-Y so-called influencers making momentary videos could still fill unused bedrooms.

Six Senses does not need a formal Clubhouse (although, being part of IHG, those staying at any Six Senses, anywhere, get value from being part of IHG, lock into the IHG Rewards Club). Girlahead feels that her own loyalty to a brand frankly does not need the commercialism of being given a few points in return, though when it comes to airline travel that is completely different a story.
