Capella Bangkok, Hiroshima, The Betsy

Bangkok is about to get a rash of new hotels right on the Chao Phraya river. The 101-room Capella, for instance, opens 1st October.  The exteriors are by Andy Miller and Richard Scott Wilson of Hamiltons International, and interiors are thanks to BAMO, Rooms run from 656 sq. ft up to to 6,404 sq. ft – all have floor-to-ceiling windows (see image above) and a balcony or verandah and riverside villa have outdoor jacuzzi plunge pools.  Fine dining is courtesy of Argentina-born Mauro Colagreco, based at Mirazur, Menton. Hotel GM is John Blanco.

Girlahead says every global explorer should visit Hiroshima – once. Sobering is understatement for the reaction (you grow up, you gain a lifetime of horror in even an hour-long visit). Every year on 6th August there is a commemoration, and yesterday, on the 75th anniversary, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was there.  The number of survivors, who are known as hibakusha, sadly gets smaller each year.

The Betsy, South Beach, is nonstop Miami Beach happenings. There are daily poetry and book readings and art events, all as part of the hotel’s PACE philosophy –  Philanthropy, Arts, Culture and Education. There is a Writer’s Room, a library, and temporary and permanent art and photo exhibitions on all interior walls. Add to this continual  writers and  artists in residence. The owners of all this are the Plutznik family, Jonathan, his wife Lesley Goldwasser, and son Zack Plutznik. The hotel, part of Small Luxury, is also home to two canine ambassadors, Betsy and Rosa, who today share some of their favourite area walks – online.  https://www.instagram.com/thebetsyhotel/
