Bali – Glasgow

“Our key programme for 2021 is the celebration of Diversity and sustainability’, explains Vincent Guironnet, Kempinski’s Man In Bali. The Apurva Kempinski Bali, which is renowned for its service plus such wow touchpoints as its wedding chapel, above, has added a rooftop garden growing various types of greens in a hydrophonic and soil cultivation system as part of the resort’s efforts towards a better environment. He feels it is important  to deliver an uncompromising luxury experience, while ensuring a minimal environmental and social impact. The launch of the Rooftop Garden is another essential step for us in enhancing our guest experience, by incorporating environmental responsibility.”

In Glasgow, Paul Bray – whom Girlahead met a couple of years ago at the lovely-quirky Kimpton Fitzroy in London – has flagged the historic 1883-vintage Central Hotel as fun-casual voco, also, like the Kimpton brand, part of the great IHG family. What is now the 230-room voco Grand Central has a contemporary fresh palette of blues and voco signature yellow to complement the original Victorian architecture of the original 19th century railway hotel. The hotel was at the heart of innovation and global history including the first ever long distance television broadcast by John Logie Baird, from London to a room on the Hotel’s fourth floor. It was also where a young John F Kennedy met the survivors of the Clyde-built liner The Anthenia, sunk by a U-boat in 1939 with many Americans on board.   See a Youtube video, below
