Aman – Healthy Sail – PATA – Dorchester Collection

Aman launches its new SVA skincare range, above, with holistic formulas and supplements to maintain optimum health in a modern and frenetic world. SVA is Sanksrit for ‘health’, and its natural and sustainable, formulas – a combination of granules, capsules and tonics – can help support immunity, digestion, circulation and a healthy mind. Aman’s Spa Director Yuki Kiyono says SVA brings to market a range of supplements blended with care to help maintain health from the inside out. There are 19 products in all, complemented by retreats. Amangiri, in Utah, plans an all-inclusive Restorative Sleep Retreat, 17-20 December 2020. Led by author Dr Michael Breus, the programme includes sleep-inducing meals, and outdoor night icecream social, plus yoga, therapeutic cold-water plunges and education in how to enjoy alcohol and caffeine without affecting sleep (and if there is any spare time, make use of Amangiri’s hydrotherapy treatments and watsu pool, its comprehensive gym with panoramic desert views and, well, the limitless desert hikes all around).

Thank goodness. Leaders of two leading mega cruise companies realise something has to be done and they are working together. Richard Fain, Chairman/CEO RCL, which includes  Silversea, and Frank Del Rio, President/CEO NCL, whose portfolio includes Regent Seven Seas Cruises, have been working for months on Healthy Sail, to develop protocols to allow consumers, and staff, once again to sail the high seas. The Healthy Sail panel of experts is co-chaired by Dr. Scott Gottlieb, former commissioner of the US Food and Drug Administration, and Mike Leavitt, former U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, who says the group has undertaken an ‘ambitious, cross-disciplinary, public health examination to develop standards and guidelines that create the highest level of safety in the complex environment of a cruise ship. Their suggestions, now lodged with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), include 74 best practices to protect the public health and safety of guests, crew and the communities where cruise ships call. The five areas of focus every cruise operator should address, the panel says, are: Testing, Screening and Exposure Reduction; Sanitation and Ventilation; Response, Contingency Planning and Execution; Destination and Excursion Planning; Mitigating Risks for Crew Members.

PATA’s 2020  Grand Title Winner in Sustainability, announced yesterday,  is YAANA Ventures, Thailand, for their Anurak Community Lodge in Surat Thani province, southern Thailand –  an ideal base to explore adjacent Khao Sok National Park and majestic Chiew Larn Lake. Opened in 2016, Anurak is guided by an ethos of reduce, reuse and recycle. Guests and staff are encouraged to save energy and water. Single-use plastic, Styrofoam and cardboard plates are banned. Plastic straws have been replaced with bamboo and metal ones. An onsite recycling station has been set up, along with a composting area. A grey water treatment filter system for laundry wastewater is in place. Water from that system is being used on the Rainforest Rising project. Anurak’s goal is to  return two rai (3,226 sqm; 0.8 acres) of former palm oil plantation beside the lodge to indigenous lowland evergreen forest by 2023.
