Luxury Hotels

Abu Dhabi – Hollywood – Miami Beach

Girlahead’s ‘PhD in Perfect Beef’, in Florence a couple of weeks ago, would stand in good stead at Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi. The magnificent hotel, now managed, but not yet branded, by Mandarin Oriental,  re-opened its BBQ Al Qasr venue – see above – on 1st  October (hotel GM is Michael Koth). In addition, as of 6th November, BBQ Al Qasr will be serving Friday breakfasts. There is no BBQ outside but you can look inside to see the show kitchen. At dinner time, try a Wagyu Burger – Rossini Style – complimented by foie gras, brioche bun, Reblochon, truffle fries and a house salad. The Barbeque’s best-selling main courses are BBQ Short ribs and Australian Wagyu Tomahawk, the latter weighing in at 1,200g. Wow, with 191 calories per 100 grams, a Tomahawker would have to do a lot of exercise to work it off. Fortunately, however, the Palace has 200 acres of grounds, and nearly a mile of private beach (Girlahead finds suite #3320, facing north and east, really handy on the fitness front and taking 46 stairs, rather than an elevator, down to one of the two gyms, both open 24/7, adds to the work-out).

On the west coast of USA, two outstanding leaders deserve accolades right now.  One is Ohio-born Nick Rimedeo, would-be lawyer who, years after studying international affairs at the American University of Paris, found himself opening Kimpton’s La Peer Hotel in West Hollywood. That was January 2018. Just after two years later, Rimedeo saw his 115-room hosting single-digit business. What to do? He is also Chairman of the West Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. He was hearing daily about business challenges. La Peer has 5,670 sq ft of meetings space. He talked to some of the local businesse owners and among the ones who have now moved into what is the hotel’s boutique mall, LA style of course, is GBK.  Now GBK stands for Gavin Keilly, a south Californian who is king of red-carpet gift bags and much much more: over 15 years’ growth, Keilly’s empire includes not only Celebrity Gifting but Event Production, Weddings, Charitable Consulting and Marketing/Public Relations. A highly-respected philanthropist, Gavin Keilly admits some think GBK stands for “Giving Back Kindly” – since the start of GBK, he has donated, raised or gifted over $10 million for over 50 causes.

Similarly, on the eastern seaboard of the USA, Girlahead has nothing but praise for Deborah Yager Fleming, CEO and partner at Acqualina Resort & Spa on the Beach at Sunny Isles Beach, FL. As a kid she wanted to be a radio journalist and today, heading a 4.5-acre empire that includes not only the 97-room hotel, part of Leading, but also nearly 200 residences and constant activities and events, she is lightning-quick to communicate touchpoints. She was among the first luxury hoteliers to  partner with Jack Ezon at Embark Beyond for 2020 Summer Camps for kids whose usual summer-stay places were not open this year. And now she, like so many competitors, has produced a ‘sanitary video’ – but do not turn away, THIS one is introduced by the CEO, in a black evening dress.  See below.  Girlahead says luxury never gives up on style.
