London The Langham took its regular Wigmore Pub Quiz online. The super-popular pub, a dark green haven (see above), is a Martin Brudnizki conversion of a former bank. It usually hosts hosts a quiz every Monday. The quiz is masterminded by QUESTION ONE, The Real Social Network. Teams of any number can play, paying £2 per person. Winner-takes-all in the form of a £50 voucher for food and drink at The Wigmore.
On Monday 20th April 2020 the quiz moved online, to be the Wigmore Virtual Pub Quiz. Luke Toyne of QUESTION ONE was the highly professional quiz master. He worked to questions devised by the hotel’s Nicholas Davies, Alex Facey and Charlotte Weatherall, plus QUESTION ONE. 33 participants, who entered via Zoom, had to type in answers, and mighty fast, on Kahoot.it, a pedantic that refused to allow ‘Brighton Royal Pavilion’ instead of ‘Royal Pavilion Brighton’. After each question an electronic board showed the top five players and who moved up, and down.
After 70 questions the presumably-exhausted winner was Saara Tamminen, Senior Groups Executive in the hotel’s Sales & Marketing team. She won a £250 voucher for a charity of her choice and opted to donate it to the UK’s frontline NHS via the hotel’s JustGiving page set up for The Langham London’s ongoing virtual Race to Hong Kong, for sponsored exercise resulting in a London-Hong Kong relay to reach Langham headquarters on 10 June 2020, the 155th anniversary of the luxury hotel.
The next virtual Wigmore Pub Quiz is scheduled for Monday 4th May 2020.
