Those who own and run luxury hotels are scrambling to get into the ‘genuine experiences’ space. Talking with Singita owner Luke Bailes this week, the gal was told that frankly big hotel companies have a challenge as today top-spending travellers today want such words as authentic, bespoke, family and small, and global corporates do not fit at least two of those requirements.
But perhaps we can look away from hotels and see what is available outside. Let me share the story of Luca Bertossio and Edoardo Giglio. Udine-based Luca Bertossio, 27, is Red Bull World Champion. His glider – see above – is brought up to 13,000 feet and then he is set free, to work his gliding acrobatic magic. I am told he is someone who has athletics in every iota of his DNA. He will take select fews up for the thrill, and he has agreed a partnership with his compatriot Edoardo Giglio, the Italian who runs The Life Dreams experiences company, in London. Luxury hotels could well find that signing up with a pair like this would enable their guests to have the kind of thrills they are looking for today, in which case it would be win-win, for all concerned.
